DA PACHECO JOINS IN "FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS" RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, December 5, 2007: District Attorney Rod Pacheco is slated to participate in the 3rd Annual Chanukah Festival of Lights ceremony. The event will coincide with the traditional candle-lighting marking the beginning of the 8 days of Chanukah. DA Pacheco will join with local dignitaries and community leaders for the "Passing of the Torch" lighting ceremony, which will honor Leon Leyson, the youngest survivor of Schindler's List. "The symbolism of Chanukah is very important," stated Pacheco, "there is an unending record of perseverance that has never wavered. That is embodied in Leon Leyson and I'm proud to be sharing a stage with him." Leyson survived the Holocaust working in Oscar Schindler's Enamelware Factory, having arrived to work there at the age of 13. Following World War II he made his way to the United States, serving in the U.S. Army and eventually graduating from Los Angeles State College. Leyson now travels the nation telling his story of survival. The event will begin at 6:30pm on December 5, 2007, in front of the Riverside County Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main Street in Riverside.
