Now is a turbulent time for victims, victims’ rights, and the communities we serve. Our focus of seeking justice, helping with healing, and mitigating the trauma that crime victims can endure has been jeopardized by the California State Legislature enacting resentencing laws for the incarcerated as part of efforts to reduce prison overcrowding. Those changes have resulted in a destructive impact for victims that had already secured some form of justice. Or so they thought.
