News Release 4-15-2024

August 27, 2025

RIVERSIDE – The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has charged the parents of missing 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro, with murder in his suspected death.

Jake Mitchell Haro, DOB: 2-11-1993, and Rebecca Renee Haro, DOB: 2-03-1984, are each charged with:

Count 1: Murder (PC 187)

Count 2: Filing a False Police Report (PC 148.5)

"The evidence shows that baby Emmanuel endured ongoing abuse that ultimately took his life," District Attorney Mike Hestrin said at a Aug. 27 news conference in Riverside. "Our office is committed to ensuring that justice is done for this child and that his short life is not forgotten."

Hestrin was joined at the news conference by San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, Riverside County Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith, and San Bernardino County Sergeant Nicholas Clark, the lead investigator on the case. As of this news release, neither Emmanuel nor his remains have been located.

The false report charges stem from the couple’s falsified report of Emmanuel's abduction on Aug. 14 in Yucaipa when Rebecca Haro claimed she was attacked in a parking lot when changing the baby's diaper.

The prosecution is also pursuing Evidence Code section 1109 that would allow prosecutors to introduce evidence showing a defendant has committed acts of abuse, even if they were not charged, to show a pattern of behavior.

Jake Haro was convicted of willful child cruelty in 2023 for a 2018 incident against his daughter from another marriage.

Over the Riverside District Attorney’s Office’s objection, Jake Haro pled guilty to the court. The judge in that case suspended his prison sentence, and Jake Haro was ordered to serve 180 days in a work release program and probation.

Jake and Rebecca Haro were scheduled to be arraigned yesterday, Aug 26., however, at the request of the defense, the hearing was continued to Sept. 4 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 61 at the Hall of Justice in Riverside. Both remain in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.

The case, FERI2504808-1 and -2, is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith and remains under active investigation.
